Week 2 Another Week In Sydney As the week winds down, I can look back and say it was filled with adventures and new experiences. While it was not as busy as my first couple, I made time to go see friends and new places I have not yet explored. The week started with me visiting family friends. While walking there, I stumbled upon a classic Porsche. I am a huge car fanatic so I was very excited to see such a unique and classic car parked along the street. After a delicious lunch and dessert, we watched the Australian […]

Reflection #1 After spending a week in Sydney, I can confidently say that it is unlike any place I have ever been. I was nervous to take this journey, as I hadn’t been acquainted with any of my fellow travelers and I was so far from anything that I could consider my norm. But because of the kindness of my roommates and the residents of this city, I’ve never been happier with a decision. After a long day of classes, me and my roommate took a walk through the Botanical Garden. I’m from New York, so we have a Botanical […]

Week 1 Life in Sydney so far has been different to say the least. The city is laid out in a fashion I would have never guessed. There is a part with high rise buildings, but also a suburban area. Our apartment has been getting along very well. We’ve done the “touristy” things in Sydney so far, hitting the opera house and botanical gardens. Both of these have surpassed my expectations. In addition to our site seeing stops, class has been more interesting than I would expect. The Australian Life and Culture class has taught me some very interesting things. […]

My Time In Sydney As the plane descended after 15 hours in the sky, I awoke from my daze to a beam of sunlight piercing through the slit of my window cover. I unraveled the cover and unleashed an array of colors accentuated by the ocean blue sky. We had arrived in Sydney. After settling into our accommodation, I decided to just relax and get ready for classes the next day. I woke up rather early, around 5 am, and went for a light jog through darling harbor and into the city. Here is the route I took: I remember […]

Week 1 & 2: Making the Unfamiliar, Familiar As I approach the end of the second week in Sydney, everything is starting to make a little more sense. Each day I find a new shortcut to the harbor, the streets I walk begin to intersect, the trip to the beach becomes seamless. I have found a sense of slowness despite being in such a large city. So far, I have managed to average about 8 miles of walking every day, something I could not have said back home. This time alone, in conjunction with the abundance of green space, has […]

This is the space for your weekly journals. (1) First reflection is under About Me! (2) More Adventures in Sydney! Kangaroos, Emo, Tasmanian Devils…. Oh My! On Saturday January 21st, we had the incredible opportunity to explore the wonders of Walkabout Park. We met several Rangers and learned about their work on the Reserve and the mission of their projects: Rehabilitation and Return to the wild. The main priority is always the animals whether it be their health, safety, or happiness. (3) Serotonin & Fuzzy Friends I loved animals when I was younger and throughout high school I became less […]
